However, this can be taken further with some great security plugins that are available.

Wordfence Security

Step 1. Install Wordfence Security automatically or by uploading the zip file provided at the link above.
Step 2. Activate the Plugin through the Plugins menu in Wordpress.
Step 3. Click Wordfence in the sidebar and click Start a Wordfence Scan to start your first scan.
Step 4. Once your scan is complete you will be given a list of any Security Threat. Go through one by one and perform the recommended Fixes.
Step 5. Under Wordfence in the sidebar, select Options. You can enter your email address here to receive security alerts.
Step 6. Optional - Go through the options section and adjust settings as you desire.

Step 1. Install iThemes Security automatically or by uploading the zip file provided at the link above.
Step 2. Activate the Plugins through the Plugins menu in Wordpress.
Step 3. After Activating, click the Secure Your Site Now button that appears.
Step 4. iThemes Security will walk you through your first steps to securing your site, including a one-click secure option.
Step 5. Optional - Go through the iThemes Security settings and configure options as desired.
There you have it. If you've completed the above you have now greatly secured your website from intruders.
